Gardens
Gardens come in all shapes and sizes. They have many different purposes and change dramatically from season to season. As Hugh Johnson once said, “No two gardens are the same. No two days are the same in one garden.” There is a garden for everyone.
Vegetable Gardens
Grow your own veg! There’s no reason not to. It’s cheaper, tastier and more gratifying by far than buying your vegetables from a supermarket. You don’t need a big garden – your vegetable plot can be as small as you like. It can even be in a window box, or you could use a raised bed. The choice is yours – there are no limits and it is all possible. If you’re in doubt as to where or how to set up your vegetable garden, we would love to help you out. Once you start, we promise you’ll never look back!
Low Maintenance Gardens
You may love the idea of having a garden, but lack the resources to look after it. A low maintenance garden may well be for you. In the high-pressure world we live in, not everyone has time to spend hours mowing lawns and weeding beds, but we still crave a space where we can relax. Let Carrig Landscaping create your low-maintenance chill-out space. We can do this quite simply by perhaps replacing a lawn with hard landscaping, laying a patio or gravel beds, and putting down low growing shrubs and plants. We guide, you choose. Then we make it happen.
Rockeries
A rockery can be a stunning feature of a garden – it can compliment cascading waterways or provide a rugged backdrop for your favourite plants and shrubs. In consultation with you, Carrig Landscaping will design and install the perfect rockery to complete your landscape project.
Raised Beds
A contained, elevated garden area is easier to work and maintain than a traditional garden – and it’s much easier on your back. An attractive raised bed filled with flowers, fruits or vegetables adds great visual appeal and variety to any landscape. Carrig Landscaping creates beds in a range of sizes and shapes, from small accent beds to large decorative statements for your landscape. So spare your knees and give us a call – we’ll listen to your ideas and come up with a painless solution!
Lawns
The green oasis of a lawn makes feelings of peace, serenity and private contemplation all possible. Its yearly cycle of growth and the gradual colour changes of the grass lift the human spirit and link urban dwellers with their rural heritage.
From root to blade, lawns are truly invaluable to us. Some little-known lawn facts:
· A healthy, dense lawn absorbs six times more rainfall than a wheat
field and prevents run off and erosion of our
precious topsoil.
· Lawns trap the many tons of dust and dirt we release into the Irish
atmosphere annually.
· Lawns purify water entering into underground aquifers.
· A lawn’s root mass and supporting soil microbes act as massive
filters to capture and break down many types of pollutants common to
our urban environments.
· A healthy, vibrant lawn increases the market value of a home and its
salability.
· Studies show that the recovery rate among hospitalised patients is
often quicker when their rooms look out on a landscaped area
compared to patients with non-landscaped views.
· When a raw egg is dropped 11 feet onto a two-inch thick piece of
dense turf, it does not break.
We love lawns. Whether your lawn needs large- or small-scale care, call Carrig Landscaping and we’ll do the rest.
New Lawns
Carrig Landscaping breathes life into lawns. We prepare the ground, get the right seed, plant it and nurture it. We have the equipment and the expertise. We anticipate the problems before they ever happen and we rejoice in our results. We get just as excited about your new lawn as you do. Give your lawn the best start in life - Carrig Landscaping.
Instant Lawns
Need a lawn in a hurry? Carrig Landscaping has what it takes. We lay instant lawns using turf.
· As always, preparation is key. We make sure the lawn area is well drained. If the area suffers from water retention, we sometimes lay soak away or drainage pipes for long-term success.
· Then we lay the seeded turf. The added advantage of seeded turf is that it doesn’t contain any weeds - it is made up of specific grass types suitable for lawns.
· Once it’s down, the new lawn needs care while it settles in. If the turves are laid in hot weather, they need to be watered, preferably using a sprinkler for gentle watering. For the first season, the lawn needs watering during hot, dry periods.
Let the grass grow under your feet for a change. Call Carrig Landscaping.
Materials
Stone
Rough, yet sun-warmed and inviting, natural stone elicits a feeling of permanence and simplicity. Golden browns and tans, rustic reds and oranges, buff greys - the natural colour of stone adds exceptional beauty to your landscape and always leaves a lasting impression. Nothing unites your home with its outdoor environment better than natural stone.
Carrig Landcaping – stone in our name and our nature.
Paving
Extend your living area out into your garden with a patio. The most common patio plan is a simple square or rectangle, but don’t let this put you off trying something a little more adventurous - a paved area can be absolutely any shape you like. Consider steps and different levels, or irregular or curved edges. In general, a curved edge compliments a traditional style garden while geometric shapes look good with modern surroundings.
There is only one real rule of patio planning: Choose your patio’s shape and size to blend with the rest of your garden rather than intrude on it. Carrig Landscaping has experience in laying patios of all shapes and sizes – you won’t surprise us with your plans, but you might surprise yourself at how good it looks!
Water Features
Water has a natural magnetism. While we may not be able to bring you the ocean, the sight and sound of even the smallest water feature in your garden can bring instant calm and pleasure. A garden without water is incomplete. We will happily bring that extra dimension to your outdoor space, regardless of its size.
Log Cabins
Whether simple or architecturally fanciful, a playhouse can be a magical place for your child – their very own palace, fort, spaceship or club HQ. On a more practical level, they’re ideal for storing garden tools and machinery too. You know what your own needs are, and a log cabin is very often the attractive answer. Carrig Landscaping can order, erect and install your chosen log cabin for you – it’s all part of the service.
Planning Applications
The general aim of any planning department is to facilitate the development of the city and county to encourage sustainable growth and improvements in living standards and environment in the centuries to come.
Carrig Landscaping offers a fully detailed landscape application for your local County Council. It is normal for housing applications today to have a landscaping schedule accompanying them – this is to avoid problems in the future, particularly concerning sewage treatment units in private dwellings.
You need to give as much attention to your outdoor plans as you give to the interior design of your house - it is important that your garden does not stick out like a wind turbine in the landscape. When you are at this planning stage, we can help you choose plants and trees to compliment the local established soft landscaping. Do this, and we can bring the birds back into your new garden. Of course, you will also avoid unnecessary hitches in the planning process.
